DISCUSSION ON STRONG EARTHQUAKES IN SHANXI PROVINCE AND SOME PROBLEMS CONCERNED

7 Strong earthquakes of M≥6 3/4 Have occurred in Shanxi Province since there was historical record. Based on the study of historical seismic data,the authors have analyzed the long axis strike of the most destructive and destructive areas of the 7 strong earthquakes, seismic activity patterns in larger areas in several decades prior to the earthquakes and the spatial distribution of after shocks and have obtained the seismotectonic strike of each strong earthquake. Since the 7 strong earthquakes were all distributed in fault basins which were formed since Cenozoic Era and the basins were widely covered by loess of Quaternary period, the hidden developed faults in basins are interpreted by landsat photos and hence the closed structural conditions for stress concentration are shown. Finally, some common problems of these strong earthquakes are discussed,
