XINGTAI EARTHQUAKE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF EARTHQUAKE PREDICTION IN CHINA

The practice and development of earthquake prediction in China since Xingtai earthquake occurred in 1966 is introduced.The main achievements include: multidisciplinary seismic monitoring system is established;the criterion and index for earthquake prediction are formed;earthquake prediction experiments have been performed,and many prediction method have been put forward;over 20 earthquakes have been forecasted.Some difficult scientific problems are also discussed here.
