Abstract
Hancheng fault is the northwestern bound of Hejin depression. Through geological and geomorphological investigation, we found that Hancheng fault is a strikingly active fault with strong geomorphological expressions showing a feature of both vertical and right-lateral displacement. It has a moving rate ranging from 0.12-0.79mm/yr since Pliocene with a minimum overall vertical displacement of 1500-1800m. There are a lot of earthquake vestiges along the fault reflecting that there at least occurred one large earthquake with magnitude greater than 6-7 since the end of late Pleistocene.
