Earthquake Risk Assessment in Zhaotong, Yunnan Province Based on the 1 km Grid Cell

  • Taking the 1 km grid cell as the evaluation unit, using the results of the earthquake disaster risk survey — the preliminary evaluation results of building earthquake capacity based on remote sensing images and empirical estimation, six earthquake disaster risk evaluation indexes, including population, economy, elevation, ground motion parameters, fault distance and seismic capacity of building, were selected. Then, the entropy weight method was used to evaluate the comprehensive risk level of Zhaotong earthquake disaster. According to historical earthquake, based on the seismic vulnerability matrix of building and the empirical relationship between earthquake death ratio and house destruction rate in Zhaotong area, we estimate the values at economic loss and casualties risk in Zhaotong earthquake at the spatial scale of 1 km grid. The evaluation results can provide decision-making criteria for earthquake disaster risk prevention and control.
