TECTONIC CHARACTERISTICS OF WANQUAN FAULT IN ZHANGJIAKOU

  • Wanquan fault is a controlling boundary fault in the western margin of Quaternary basin, in Zhangjiakou city of Hebei province. The fault located on the intersection of Shanxi rift zone and Yanshan uplift and is the demarcation fault between of hilly and piedmont alluvial plain, which is also the boundary of Mesozoic and Cenozoic Stratum. The strike of Wanquan fault is NE, dipping SE, and was divided into two segments-south and north part. The northeast end of the Wanquan fault intersects with the Zhangjiakou fault and the southwest end up to the Ximalin fault. These three fault control the evolution of the Wanquan basin. We use a variety of means to investigate the tectonic characteristics of the fault, such as the topography changes, the geophysical exploration of buried fault and geological surveying, to show the geometry of the fault.
